Everett and Bea find themselves on another adventure. After rescuing their father and finally returning home, the kids are happy to have a moment of peace. That is, until an invitation to a secret gala arrives in the mail with a sample of a new kind of "ink." Before they know it, they are off on another adventure, trying to solve the mystery behind the Inkanto. Who made it? Why did they make it? Can they make it to the gala to help their friends before it is too late? Everett and Bea are back, along with all of their friends, and even some new ones and new powers. I loved seeing how the characters of Everett and Bea have grown because of and since the events of the first novel. They see the world in a new way, their emotions have matured, and they seem to have more of an appreciation for the written word. I appreciate that all of the characters seem to have been affected by their previous adventure in ways that actual people would also be affected. The new character of Goldie and her amazing abilities are a great addition to the story. I really liked how she helped the children handle their emotions and reacted in a calm and caring manner, nurturing the children’s own abilities and helping their characters evolve. I was not surprised by the villain at the end of this novel; however, I feel that younger readers may be. The ending really was a surprise, and I feel that it will have readers coming back for the third installment. I would recommend this book, as well as book one, to readers young and old. They are very entertaining and provide great value to any library. I would also say that these books would make great books for a family to read together. I received a copy of this novel from the publishers in exchange for an honest review, and the picture above is my own. |
