A picnic can be so much fun
With meats and greens For everyone. Bring your favorite foods And your manners too To hang with awesome Dino dudes. Every parent wants their child to eat healthy, but that can be a challenge. Now kids can enjoy this adorable story about a rowdy group of dinosaurs getting together for a healthy and fun picnic dinner. I found this book to be very cute in its simplicity. For the most part, this is a whimsical story about a bunch of dinosaurs simply getting together to have dinner. They discuss eating their vegetables as well as their meats and how doing so will help you grow big and strong. They gather up all of the foods they plan to eat, prepare them together, say a prayer, and have dinner, without burping. It is very quick and to the point, which is perfect for the age group as they tend to have a shorter attention span. My children seemed to like the illustrations and I found them to be cute, with bright colors and friendly, playful dinosaurs, even the t-Rex. In the long run, I am not under the impression that it will have a huge effect on a picky eater who is trying to get away without eating their veggies, but you never know. It might just help. Especially if they child is a super big fan of dinosaurs. I found the whole book to be a great read for you and your small child, or grandchild to enjoy together. I would give this book five out of five stars and would recommend it for young children, especially those who enjoy dinosaurs. Jigsaw Jones, private detective, has a new case. When Joey and Danika, Jigsaw’s classmates, discover a mysterious note tucked into a book from the new little free library, all evidence leads them to believe there is a visitor coming … from outer space. Can Jigsaw Jones and his partner, Mila Yen, solve The Case from Outer Space?
Jigsaw Jones is a third grade private investigator. If you have a mystery that needs solving, a puzzle that needs puzzling, he’s the kid for the job. This was a very interesting and cute children’s novel, perfect for inspiring young readers. Jigsaw is a very funny and intelligent young man, with an intense love of puzzles. His friends are equally entertaining, especially Joey, who has an insatiable appetite. I found the mystery to be very entertaining and Jigsaw’s investigation skills and simplicity, suitable for such a young sleuth. I would give this book four out of five stars and would recommend it to young children who like a good mystery. The Character Builder's Bible written by Agnes and Salem de Bezenac, Illustrated by Agnes de Bezenac12/18/2017
The stories of the Bible all teach valuable lessons and morals that we should apply to our daily life. As a young child, however, it can sometimes be difficult to know what those lessons are or how one can apply them to your daily life. With “The Character Builder’s Bible” your child will learn the stories of the Bible and what lessons those stories teach along with suggestions for applying them to your daily life.
I found this to be a very useful way to help my children understand what God wants them to learn. First we read a Bible story in a way that made it easy for my children to understand. Then we broke down the meaning of the story, the lesson buried inside. Besides the suggestions, my children also enjoyed coming up with their own ways to apply the lessons. The illustrations are simple and beautiful with bright, vibrant colors and engaging character depictions. The Bible stories have been simplified to be more easily understood by young children. Though they have been simplified, they appeared to be very similar to other children’s Bible story collections. The summarizations of the lessons intended to be learned in every story are well thought out, rationalized, and explained. The manner in which they are written helps to present them in an easy to understand light for young readers. All in all, I found this to be a wonderful way to communicate these lessons to young children. I would recommend this book to families with young children. A great one to read together. Tora Fright Patches Things Up (Prayer Monsters) by Tracey Madder, Illustrated by Bonnie Pang12/17/2017
Tora Fright is the fourth of five children. Until Baby Booyah was born, Tora was the baby, but she has grown into a strong, and fashionable little girl. When Tora wins first prize for her ceramic armadillo, she can’t wait to show her family. When Booyah accidentally breaks her armadillo, Tora must find a way to forgive him. Will Tora be able to forgive him with a little help and guidance from God?
This is an adorable children’s book that provides a real situation where a young child would have to find a way to forgive another. This can be exceedingly difficult when it involves something that you put a considerable amount of time and effort into. The illustrations are very interesting and unique. Personally, the Fright family reminds me more of large cats than monsters, they are supposed to be monsters and they come across as very friendly looking monsters. The way that Tora originally lashes out in hurt, anger and frustration is very familiar to everyone, and a as a young child who has just had something that they worked very hard on destroyed, this is a quite natural reaction, though not a good one. Once the initial hurt and anger subside, however, it usually turns to regret. When Tora’s armadillo is broken by her baby brother, she says some very hurtful things. After she calms down she realizes that she didn’t mean to hurt her baby brother. Tora prays and manages to forgive him. I think this is a very good book for young children and am very happy to be allowed to read it. I would recommend this book to anyone who wishes to help their child understand the importance of forgiveness. One bright, clear Sunday morning, Edmund Bigsnout, love wolf, found himself very, very hungry. Hungry for a city bunny. So, Edmond Bigsnout grabbed a knife from his kitchen, hopped on his bike, and headed for the city in search of the perfect city bunny.
Edmond Bigsnout is the classic, and classy, hungry wolf on the prowl for a big, juicy bunny to have for lunch. As with most stories featuring a wolf on the hunt, Edmond must face many obstacles to obtain his goal. In the city, Edmond finds the perfect bunny, but he encounters multiple obstacles in the form of the bunny’s neighbors and must start over from the beginning in another attempt. I found this book to be interesting and my children seem to enjoy it well enough. Originally published in France, therefore I am also assuming it was published in French, it is difficult to tell that it is a translation. Even the words in the illustrations have been converted to English. The illustrations are quaint and the colors drab, creating the mood of the wolf on the hunt. Small bits of lively color throughout, foreshadow the happy ending to come. Personally, this will not become a favorite read of mine, simply because, to me, there seems to have been something lost in translation. My children do not feel the same way, and I am sure there are many who agree with them. I would recommend this book to children who enjoy “The Three Little Pigs” and “Little Red Riding Hood.” I received my copy of this book from LibraryThing.com for the sole purpose of providing an honest review. Veggie Town Values: Field of Beans: A lesson in Faith by Doug Peterson, Illustrated by Michael Moore
Junior Asparagus is facing some adversity on his little league team. When Junior strikes out, causing his team to lose, another boy on the team pressures him into getting a good luck charm, like the rest of the team. Junior doesn’t believe in good luck charms, but now he is not so sure. When Junior wanders into the Treasure Trove Bookstore to ask Mr. O’Malley for a four leaf clover, Mr. O’Malley gives him a book called “Field of Dreams,” instead. Junior is transported into the book, where he meets a prophet named Eli and the team for the Baal City Relics. Will Eli’s faith in God help him win against the Baal City Relics and will Junior learn to stand up for what he believes in, even if it means going against the crowd? I absolutely adore this book. I grew up watching the VeggieTales movies and my children highly enjoy them as well. This book is different, in ways, from the movies, which I particularly like. I love how they take a story from the Bible and turn it into a story that is easier for small children to relate to. The illustrations are great, the characters look like the characters from the movies, making it easier for my children, who can’t read on their own yet, to recognize the characters and understand who is who. I bought my copy of this book at a local thrift store. I have been granted permission from the publishers at Zonderkidz to use an image of the cover artwork above. Bedtime Read and Rhyme Bible Stories by Bonnie Rickner Jensen, Illustrated by Robert Dunn10/19/2016 Bedtime is a wonderful time to read from the Bible to your children. With over 90 stories from the Bible, this rhyming collection allows your child to understand God's word. The rhymes are fun yet well- constructed to convey God's love for all. This collection of Bible stories has a gorgeous cover which features Noah's ark floating on the flood waters at night. The illustration is whimsical, showing two monkeys dangling from the side of the ark, trying to catch a leaping fish. As for the content, there are a wide variety of Bible stories with children favorites such as Noah's ark, and David and Goliath as well as less favorites such as Ruth and Boaz and Paul's letters from prison. All of the stories are told using rhyme as it’s suggested by the title. My daughter loves this book. My son loves the pictures but only sits for a story or two. My daughter gets involved in the rhymes and loves the illustrations. The great part is that she listens and asks questions. I feel that this is a great way to get our children involved. I would recommend this book to Christian families wishing to raise their children in their faith. I received my copy of this book from booklookbloggers.com and through them have permission to use the cover artwork above. God loves us. Each and every one of us. If we look, we can see God’s love all around us. The classic images of Precious Moments artwork and Bible scriptures proclaiming His love and a wonderful way to teach your children about God’s unending, unwavering love for us. This is an adorable book for your little girl. The entire book is highlighted in a delicate pink. The cover is cushioned, featuring a little boy holding up a bouquet of flowers. There is also a cute little puppy standing in front of him with a butterfly on his nose. Three more butterflies and a number of little pink hearts float through the air and around the book’s title. I think this is adorable. The poems inside are cute and simple, easy for young children to understand and follow. Some of the poems are recognizable as children’s songs, some of which I grew up singing myself. These songs are still included in religious and nonreligious children’s CD's. The prayers are also easy to understand, straight forward, and they rhyme, same as the poems. I like how they have included prayers for different events and different times throughout the day. The length and the fact that they rhyme make them easy for my daughter to repeat after me and help her to remember them when she wants to say them on her own. I also like how they have included small bits of scripture that help to show what the Bible really tells us about God’s love for us and how we should love those around us. Seeing Precious Moments artwork again was a real treat for me. I loved the Precious Moments when I was a child and seeing how my daughter loves them too is amazing. I would recommend this cute collection of poems to families with little girls who love to sing and rhyme, or to anyone looking for a link back to their own childhood. We have all heard at least one Child's Prayer in our lives, whether we said them ourselves as children or we heard them on television, we have heard them. These prayers were created to help young children talk to God. For parents who wish to teach these prayers to their children, it can be hard to know where to begin, especially if they no longer remember the prayers. This book makes learning the prayers easy for both parents and children with its engaging images and small size.
I think this book is very cute. The illustrations are bright and engaging and my children love them. They have all kinds of pictures, from the whole family together to one child playing by him self. These pictures help to convey that prayer can happen at anytime and anywhere. The prayers themselves are, for the most part, simple and easy to read. Some of them have a bit of a stumble factor, but most of them are simple. They are also very easy for children to understand. MY greatest worry about this book would have to be the thin pages. These pages are not super thin but they are thin and I worry about small children accidentally ripping the pages when they are turning them.
