Veggie Town Values: Field of Beans: A lesson in Faith by Doug Peterson, Illustrated by Michael Moore

Junior Asparagus is facing some adversity on his little league team. When Junior strikes out, causing his team to lose, another boy on the team pressures him into getting a good luck charm, like the rest of the team. Junior doesn’t believe in good luck charms, but now he is not so sure.
When Junior wanders into the Treasure Trove Bookstore to ask Mr. O’Malley for a four leaf clover, Mr. O’Malley gives him a book called “Field of Dreams,” instead. Junior is transported into the book, where he meets a prophet named Eli and the team for the Baal City Relics. Will Eli’s faith in God help him win against the Baal City Relics and will Junior learn to stand up for what he believes in, even if it means going against the crowd?
I absolutely adore this book. I grew up watching the VeggieTales movies and my children highly enjoy them as well.
This book is different, in ways, from the movies, which I particularly like. I love how they take a story from the Bible and turn it into a story that is easier for small children to relate to.
The illustrations are great, the characters look like the characters from the movies, making it easier for my children, who can’t read on their own yet, to recognize the characters and understand who is who.
I bought my copy of this book at a local thrift store. I have been granted permission from the publishers at Zonderkidz to use an image of the cover artwork above.

Children's books are very important. As our children are growing and learning, books help to guide them on their journey.
