Nazafareen isn't entirely sure what it means to be a Water Dog, but she knows their job is to protect the kingdom from creatures like the one that killed her sister. Seeing an opportunity, she volunteers to be tested.
Now that she has joined their ranks, she is linked with her own daeva, Darius. Through the link, Nazafareen can control his power, but the magical cuffs that bind them also share each of their emotions with each other.
The longer they work together to save the kingdom from a terrifying foe, the grow closer and both begin to question what they have been taught to believe. With numerous dangers approaching the kingdom, will they discover what truths are real and where their loyalties lie?
This book is amazing! Definitely a new favorite. It has everything I love in a good fantasy novel. As if the action and magic alone weren't enough. The writing is clear and well constructed. I didn't want to put it down.
Despite the time frame, the characters are easy to connect with. The depth at which these characters have been thought out make them very realistic and believable. I enjoyed reading about how the two interact with each other and are able to understand each other. I was even able to connect with the lesser characters and able to understand why they did the things that they did, even if I wasn't exactly wishing them well. An all around amazing book.
I highly enjoyed this novel and am waiting in anticipation for the second installment. I would recommend this to fans of fantasy everywhere.
I received my copy of this book from the author herself for the sole purpose of an honest review.
